Emma Elston MBE, Founder and Chief Executive of UK Container Maintenance (UKCM) has been announced as a director of the prestigious Women of the Year Awards, which confers high profile awards for both Woman of Achievement and Business Woman of the Year.
Drawing on her considerable experience as former winner of Business Woman of the Year 2012, Emma was honoured to be welcomed onto the board of directors to play an integral part in the organisation.
The announcement was made at the prestigious launch event, hosted at Freeths LLP in Mayfair on 28 March. Attendees included the organisation’s directors, previous winners, representatives from a range of sponsors and the hosts of last year’s event.
Emma joins the board that includes Jenny Campbell a well-known entrepreneur on BBC’s Dragon’s Den, Victims Commissioner of England and Wales, Baroness Helen Newlove, IT Consultant, Pauline Edden and lawyer, Zalena Vandrewala.
“It is such an honour to have been invited onto the board of directors of Women of the Year which oversee this wonderful organisation, with such a fantastic and diverse history.”
The next event, which will represent the 37th Women of the Year Luncheon & Awards celebrates and highlights the achievements of women from all across the UK and will take place at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole on Friday 25 October 2019.
Each year, Women of the Year proudly supports charities from across the UK. In 201, the chosen charities are The Prince’s Trust: Women supporting Women and Elle for Elle, a charity which donates sanitary products to women’s refuges across the UK. Over the lifetime of the event an incredible £500,000 has been raised for charities, highlighting and supporting the wonderful work they do every single day.
All proceeds from the Women of the Year Awards go to charity and the directors’ work on a voluntary basis, to champion women in the UK and promote equality and diversity in UK business.
Previous winners include Karren Brady, Sharon Redrobe OBE, Hilary Devey and last year’s winner Sally Preston MD & Founder of Kiddylicious.
The organisation welcomes back sponsors including Freeths LLP, Pertemps, Strategi Solutions Ltd, Aston University and Diageo whilst announcing new sponsorship from Boodles, Natwest and Equistone for 2019.
Emma’s appointment coincides with the launch of the Business Woman of the Year Award, which as a former winner, ideally positions her to oversee the award moving forward.
