Angie Robinson, former CEO of Manchester Central, has been appointed as Chair of Marketing Cheshire
Angie takes over from Clive Sykes, Chairman of Sykes Cottages, who is stepping down as Chair of the Destination Management Organisation responsible for promoting Cheshire as a visitor, business and investment location, after his three-year term.
Sykes, who has grown Sykes Cottages from a small business operating from his mother’s Yorkshire farmhouse into a market leading online brand that has been based in Chester for over 20 years, has presided over a period in which Marketing Cheshire has been awarded two funded projects by Visit Britain and has a role as a key partner in three more, and was awarded funding from Visit England and Arts Council England to promote Cheshire as a cultural destination.
He has also championed an expanded online ticketing system to ensure that visitors stay longer and spend more in Cheshire and has spoken on a number of occasions about the need for destinations such as Chester to encourage more voluntary giving by visitors using contactless payments. Recently the company has revealed a completely overhauled website and partner offer.
Clive Sykes said: “When I took over I was clear that I would serve three years and try to make a difference. Marketing Cheshire has made enormous progress both in driving traffic to its website and channels and then in monetising that traffic effectively. We have a small but hugely energetic and creative team of people who really care about putting Cheshire on the map as a destination for tourism and investors. I felt for my successor we need continuity and stability and Angie was the perfect choice. Angie has been a star performer on the board and is hugely respected by her peers.”
Angie Robinson, who until recently was CEO of Manchester’s international conference venue, Manchester Central, and has been a member of the Marketing Cheshire Board for several years, will assume the role in October. Her previous roles have included CEO of MIDAS, Manchester’s inward investment agency and CEO of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
Angie Robinson added: “I’m delighted to be taking over the Chair of Marketing Cheshire. Cheshire has been my home for over 30+ years and it is both a beautiful and dynamic place to live and work. I will be seeking a wide consensus around what we need to do to ensure that the recent robust growth we have seen in the visitor economy in Cheshire and its jewel Chester continues. We have so many opportunities with the expansion of Manchester and Liverpool Airport and the arrival of HS2. It’s going to be an exciting time.”
